Size zero girl ‘too fat for catwalk’
May 15, 2008
A size zero model has told how she was kicked off a Paris catwalk for being too fat – despite starving herself down to 102lb.
Ali Michael, 17, says her hair fell out in clumps and her periods stopped for a year as she became seriously ill trying to compete in the world of fashion.
She turned to a nutritionist to help keep her slim in a healthy way, but this caused her to put on a few much needed pounds.
And even though she was still a US size zero (UK Size 4), she was told her legs were too fat for a Paris fashion show. Now, 5ft 9in Ali is speaking out. She says the industry is making models – as well as young girls who aspire to look like them – ill.
“It has to change,” she said.
Ali was joined on America’s Today show by Amy Astley, editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, who said she sees an alarming trend for models having to be skinnier. She added: “It comes from the designers.”

I’m glad she is speaking out about this. Designers should just use mannequins if they want an unrealistic body.

What more do these designers want? Ali is thinner than most of the “Super-Models” and yet they want her to lose weight? They must be out of their minds

is that alice burdeu’s body i see? it’s unfair to put her there when she has been certified healthy by a nutritionist and when she is naturally that thin.
but i do agree that this size zero trend has to stop. whenever i open those magazines and see models so thin, it makes me feel bad about the 5′3” body that i have. heck my five year old sister is making comments about how fat she is already!

That is Alice Burdeu! And it’s definitely not an appropriate image to go with the article, she’s been criticised for her weight, but has been certified as being fit healthy. xx
